Jennie Wright
Lead generation and online summit queen, the host of the Aquire podcast
Jennie Wright [00:00:04]:
Hey, everybody. Welcome back to the Acquire Podcast. I’m your host, Jenny Wright. I’m excited. Today, it feels like sweater weather. It is late August here in Toronto. And that means that things start to get a little unsettled and today was like, I woke up and it was about 13 degrees. So crazy how cool it is because last week we were sweltering in a heat wave.
Jennie Wright [00:00:29]:
And today it was like 13 degrees. So yeah, that’s August or late August in Toronto. And it makes me feel excited because this time of year is when we start thinking about the fall. Right? So, a lot of kids are back to school. If you live in the states and Canada, that would be like blasphemous. Most kids don’t go back to school until after labor day. Some do. But now it’s like your juices start to flow again because vacation’s over and you’re getting back into the rhythm or the swing of things where you’re starting to look at, you know, spending more time in the office.
Jennie Wright [00:01:05]:
You’ve got less distraction potentially, and now you’re sort of thinking about the fall. I’m here to tell you that you should not wait to kick start your fall list build. Don’t wait. This is the time. So today we’re going to talk about how we can get these fall list building plans off to the races. And I’m going to show you exactly how to do it. I’m doing this right now with a whole new slew of clients who came on board to plan their fall summits and their fall list builds with me. I’ve got a huge one coming up.
Jennie Wright [00:01:38]:
Gosh, in just about 4 weeks, I’ve got another one coming up in about 3 weeks and I’m working on a couple more for other, you know, different types of clients. And just so you know, I work with beginners, brand new people to the digital online space. And I also work with brick and mortar businesses, as well as online businesses that are, you would say that are more corporate. So right from the, like the absolute total noobs, which I love, I love working with noobs. And I say that in like, noobs is not a negative word to me because I love it right up until the 6 figure and then multi 7 figure market. And I will tell you that the same rules apply across the board to all different levels. You’re no different as a, as somebody who’s just starting out as to somebody who’s running a multi 6 figure business. The problems are just bigger and different.
Jennie Wright [00:02:27]:
That’s it. Right? And so when we market, we’re still marketing almost in very similar ways. We’re just doing it maybe at a higher level. Maybe we’re adding a little bit more complexity in there and we’re having a different goal in mind. Right? And so instead of wanting to sell 30 courses at 297, we’re selling, you know, 50 or 60 spots in a $25,000 mastermind, or we’re selling 50 or 60 spots in a high level certification course or something like that. Right. So it’s the same thing, but slightly different. That’s all it is.
Jennie Wright [00:02:59]:
And, if you know me and you’re watching me on video, I’m touting a new haircut. I finally got my haircut. I feel like a new person. I cut off about 7 inches of hair. So, if you only listen to this on, you know, podcasts and stuff like that, I I regularly tote a very long haircut and, I just cut off like 7 inches of hair. So, it’s pretty bare, but it feels great. Alright. Let’s dive in.
Jennie Wright [00:03:23]:
Let’s talk about this. So let’s get into all things list building and lead generation for the fall. This topic I know is front of mind for you. It’s definitely front of mind for me. And so let’s talk about why fall is the prime time for list building. So fall is happening. Kids back to school, which we talked about a little bit routines. You’re getting settled in again, and folks are really focusing on the goals.
Jennie Wright [00:03:47]:
What can you achieve between now and the end of the year? We’re going right into Q4 shortly. What can you do in the next couple of months to really bring the rest of the year home for yourself? And this is the perfect time to capture that momentum for your business. If you wait too long, you are going to risk missing out on this prime time when your audience is absolutely the most engaged and ready to sign up for what you’re offering. This is why I always book end my years with a list build in the spring and in the fall. These are the times of the most engagement you will ever get out of your ideal clients, because it’s not the summer and it’s not the holidays and we have to make the most of this time of year. So if you wait too long, this is the danger. Okay. If you wait too long, you’re going to get lost in that holiday hustle.
Jennie Wright [00:04:36]:
You’re gonna feel like, oh my gosh, now I’m competing with black Friday, cyber Monday, American Thanksgiving. And before, you know, it everybody’s focused on holiday shopping, family gatherings, and the chaos that comes with all of that. By then your list building efforts have to compete with all of that noise and you don’t really want to do that. Trust me. It is much harder to grab people’s attention in November December than it is in September October. So how to get started now, this is really easy guys. If you’re convinced, but you don’t know where to start. I want you to map out your goals.
Jennie Wright [00:05:12]:
I want you to work from the end goal and work backwards. What do you need to achieve with this list build? Is it just to grow your audience, boost your sales, or maybe it’s in the purposes to nurture your leads for a new big launch? Once you have that clarity, start planning. Now you could do this with a challenge. You could do this with a highly engaging lead magnet. You could do this by participating on bundles or hosting 1 yourself. This could be a, a mini course that you launch, or this could be a summit. I mean, you could put together a fall summit without too much difficulty if you start planning now and get it done before the holidays. Right? So something that really offers value to your audience and something that is not too hard or difficult for you to create.
Jennie Wright [00:06:03]:
Now here’s the kicker. You have to get your promotion plan in place before you do any of this. Start warming up your audience right now. Use your social media, your email marketing, even look for collaborations with other entrepreneurs to start talking, start warming up your audience and it doesn’t have to necessarily be promo. Do you know that I look at promo as in 3 separate categories, runway, promo, post event promo. Okay. So this is the runway period. This is the ramp up.
Jennie Wright [00:06:37]:
This is where the wheels start to move and you’re starting to create some energy and enthusiasm and you don’t have to actually promote the thing. You just need to talk about. What’s going on. Right. So I always love doing a behind the scenes social thing, you know, Hey, I just spoke to so and so today, just interviewed them for my summit. How amazing is that? Or I just closed 5 new speakers for my event, or I just put the finishing touches on my such and such. And I can’t wait to share it with you. Look at promotion being more about engagement than shoving something down through people’s throats.
Jennie Wright [00:07:12]:
Nobody wants it and nobody’s going to listen to it. And so you have to look at this runway period as the opportunity to connect more deeply. And the sooner you start, the more buzz you’ll create. By the time you launch your list, build your audience is going to be ready and waiting. So don’t, don’t miss this part. Okay. Now just like everybody else. I’m a procrastinator.
Jennie Wright [00:07:35]:
I don’t know anybody. Who’s not a procrastinator at some point or different area of their life because let’s get real. I know procrastination is a sneaky little devil. I always have that on my back sometimes. And you might be thinking to yourself, I’ll just wait until things calm down. But here’s the thing. Do they ever really calm down? I mean, is it ever really calm? Because for me, it is ebb and flow and there’s always something going on. There’s always another project.
Jennie Wright [00:08:05]:
There’s always another deadline. There’s always something I’m always onboarding a client. I’m always adding a new project. The time is always now and the longer you wait and the more you put off putting your business first in this list building season, the more you’re putting your business at risk of missing out on this golden opportunity. Don’t let procrastination steal the success that you could be creating right now. So take action now. Because your future self, 6 months down the line is going to thank you for having done this now. And that’s how you have to think.
Jennie Wright [00:08:41]:
I, I look at things as non negotiables, just like you get up in the morning and you brush your teeth and you make your bed and you put your clothes on and, you know, shower, do all the things, whatever it is that you do, whatever your routine is that are non negotiables that you do every single day. List building, lead generation, connecting with ideal clients, these are nonnegotiables. So I just I just for me to get over my procrastination stuff, I just say, you know what? This is a nonnegotiable, and therefore, it’s something I can’t not do. And that that helps me. I don’t know it would help you, but I definitely think it helps me. So I would recommend looking at whatever you can do to overcome that, that desire or that need not to do things. Now I will say this. Now I let myself be lazy.
Jennie Wright [00:09:36]:
I absolutely indulge laziness. And I know that sounds weird, but I allow myself to be lazy like one day a week. That works for me. What works for you might be different. I love having a day off in the middle of the week where I can either do completely nothing if I don’t want to, do errands if I want to, whatever needs to be done. The example would be for me yesterday. Yesterday morning, we had a doctor’s appointment. We had errands to run.
Jennie Wright [00:10:08]:
I had a return to take to a store, and I needed to get groceries. So and I don’t like doing any of that on a weekend. Obviously, going to the doctor’s office, I can’t do that on a week weekend. So that was yesterday. And I actually had to call at 2 o’clock yesterday, so we were back in time for the call. And then I spent the remaining part of the afternoon just hanging out, doing some chores, cooking, and just relaxing because my weekend actually wasn’t relaxing. My weekend was full of stuff. So I needed that day just to kinda recoup and just get, like, get up to speed on a lot of the household chores that need to be done.
Jennie Wright [00:10:48]:
You know, life like going to the doctor and stuff like that. So that is what works for me because then I’m like, okay, I feel a little bit recharged. I, I don’t work well if every day is fully baked with so much stuff. I need downtime to replenish whatever battery or whatever you want to call it so that I feel like I can put like my work hard, play hard is my strategy. So then I can play hard and I can go full board. Today is a play hard day. It is like beginning to end full of calls, recording this podcast, taking care of client stuff, doing an onboarding. You know, I’m also working on stuff in the back end of my own business, developing a new product.
Jennie Wright [00:11:32]:
I’m looking at new software right now. So all these different things for the business, and that’s where I kind of, you know, lay things out. So let’s talk about consistency for a second before we wrap this up. And the reason that I want you to start now with your fall list build is all about the power of consistency. List building, as you already know, is not just a one and done sort of thing. It is being consistent, being relentless in showing up for your audience, offering value, nurturing those leads, creating relationships and nurturing those relationships. And when you start early and often, then you have the time to build the trust and connection that’s going to actually connect more deeply with your audience. And by the time falls in full swing, you’ll have a nice, warm, engaging list that is ready to help you, to support you, to purchase, to connect with you.
Jennie Wright [00:12:24]:
And I think this is super important. So if you’re on the fence about getting into your 1st fall list build or your latest fall list build, let this be your nudge to get moving now. The sooner your start, the better your results are going to be. And also remember, this isn’t about just growing your list. This is about setting up your business for success as we head into the fall months and honestly preparing you for the new year. So if you’re ready to dive in and create this really great list build, but you’re not sure where to start or you need some extra help, I’ve got you covered. Head on over to my website, jennywright.com, where I have tons of resources and tools to help you kickstart your list build and so that you don’t have to procrastinate. So don’t wait.
Jennie Wright [00:13:12]:

And I feel like they’re ready and waiting for what it is that you have to offer. And I really don’t want you to waste this opportunity. So with all that said, get ready for your fall list build, figure out what it is bookend this year with something super positive that pulls in new leads. I know I’m doing it. I’m appearing on a couple of different summits.
Jennie Wright [00:13:42]:
